Bill Martin, age 81, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, March 7th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. No services will be held locally. Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, KS, at a later date. William George Martin was born on November 4, 1941, in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Edgar and Lucile (Grimstead) Martin. He lived in Fort Worth until the age of 14 when his family moved to Marshall, Arkansas. At the age of 16, he moved to Lawrence, Kansas where he graduated from high school. Upon graduating, Bill was drafted as a pitcher by the Cleveland Indian organization and played in El Paso, Texas on their farm team.
Bill married Joyce Hamer and to this union two daughters were born, Karlene and Tammy. In 1983, Bill married Judy Sherman.
Most of Bill’s work life was spent with Kansas Power and Light as a Supervisor at Lawrence Energy Plant and Jeffery Energy Center.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Fosston; two daughters, Karlene Teske of Wamego, KS and Tammy Kokenge of Topeka, KS; one sister, Frona Hamlin of Baldwin, KS. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Samone Knott, of Fosston; two grandsons; two step-grandsons; two great grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
