Wayne Halvorson, age 69, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (December 31st) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (January 6th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday (January 5th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Flag presentation will be provided by the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Wayne LeRoy Halvorson was born on July 9, 1939 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Carl and Gunda (Moy) Halvorson. He grew up and attended grade school in Trail, Minnesota and graduated from Gonvick High School in 1957. After high school, he worked on a farm for his cousin in Montana and also for the railroad before entering the United States Air Force in March of 1959. During his time in the service, Wayne was stationed in Scotland and London, England. Wayne was united in marriage to Judy Holding on February 14, 1962. They returned to the United States and he was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. He received his honorable discharge in November of 1963 and he and Judy relocated to Fosston. Upon his return to the area, Wayne worked for a few years at the potato plant in Fosston. He then began attending Bemidji State University while working part time for the railroad. He completed his Bachelor's degree in 1970 and continued work toward a Master's degree in psychology. Wayne began full time work with the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1972, continuing until his retirement in 2001.Wayne enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, watching and playing baseball and watching professional sports on tv. He will be remembered by his family as a humble man who enjoyed the little things in life. His favorite times were spent with his family and friends.He passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at his home following a long illness at the age of 69 years.Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Judy of Fosston; four sons, Robert (Gayle) of Whitehouse, TN, David of Fosston, Jeff of Minnetonka, MN, and Michael of Rogers, MN; four grandchildren, Kasey (Ben Hardesty) Halvorson, Candace Halvorson, Kyle Halvorson, and Sofia Halvorson; one sister, Lorraine Foster of Fosston. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Vernon and Dennis.Honorary Pallbearers will be all relatives and friends.Active Pallbearers will be Richard Evje, Robert Evje, Kurt Halvorson, Kyle Halvorson, Matt Evje, and Wade Evje.
