Wayne Brekke, age 63, of Gully, MN, passed away on Thursday (June 14th) at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (June 18th) at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully with Dawn Hanson officiating. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, Gully. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Wayne Benry Brekke was born, February 28, 1949, the second of 4 children, died June 14, 2012 of cancer. He was the son of Raymond and Grace Brekke. Wayne's middle name was after his two grandfathers, Ben Brekke and Henry Bergh. Wayne attended Gully Grade School. In 1962, the Brekke family moved to the cities. Wayne graduated from Richfield H.S. in 1967. He then went on to attended and graduate from Northland Community College in Thief River Falls. While at Northland, he was on the college wrestling team. From there he went to Moorhead State University where he graduated with a business degree. After graduation, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he was in real estate for about 25 years. In 1995 Wayne returned to Gully to farm. He always said about Gully, "Where men are men and women appreciate them", and then he would smile. Wayne loved reminiscing about family and friends, visiting with his friends at Tora Bora and at Tony's Lazy X. He liked sports, playing them in his earlier days and watching them later. Gardening, reading and politics were other passions of his. If you knew him, you knew which political party he favored.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Grace Brekke. He is survived by sisters, Cheryl Plante and Merlaine Evje, of Bemidji, brother, Rob Brekke, Gully. Brothers-in-law, Dan Plante, Gary Evje, sister-in-law Patty Brekke, nieces, Chantal Plante Ghosn and Elizabeth Svor (Brian), great niece and nephew, Savanna and Alexander Ghosn. Aunts, Iona Berry, Oklee, Blanch Robbins, Richfield, June Bergh, Gully. Uncle, Willard Robbins, and many cousins and friends. The family of Wayne Brekke would like to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to our cousin Doug Robbins who has done so much for Wayne.
