Walton Evans, age 79, of Mesa, AZ and formerly of Buffalo, NY and Fosston, MN, passed away on March 18, 2007 at Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (June 2nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.Walton James Evans was born on September 24, 1927 in Clearbrook, Minnesota to parents John and Esther (Hasselton) Evans. In 1928 he moved with his parents to the Fosston area. He attended Happy Corner School in Queen Township and Fosston Elementary and High Schools.During World War II he enlisted in the United States Navy on April 19, 1945 and was honorably discharged on August 16, 1946. Following his naval service he worked as a seaman and wheelsman on various carriers on the Great Lakes until his retirement.Walton was united in marriage to Irene Smith of Buffalo, New York on January 9, 1970.Survivors include his children, Steven and Susan; two step sons, Daniel (Christine) Smith of Mesa, AZ, Joseph Smith of Port Charlotte, FL; and four stepdaughters, Kathleen Smith of W. Englewood, FL, Judith Smith of Springville, NY, Margaret Smith of Bull Head City, AZ and Elaine (Brian) Mendyke of Buffalo, NY. Also surviving are his sister, Madreen Evans of Plymouth, MN and three brothers, Arlon (LaVerne) Evans of Park Rapids, MN, and Winton and Bruce Evans of Bagley, MN, as well as a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his wife Irene and his parents.
