Walter Howe

Walter Howe, age 89, of Erskine, Minnesota passed away on Friday, April 25th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine and for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Walter Howard Howe, the ninth child of Christian M. and Emma (Nelson) Howe, was born on July 11, 1918, at Erskine, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Rodnes Lutheran Church and attended school district 170 in rural Erskine. He became interested in electronics at an early age and became even more interested while working on military aircraft during World War II, wiring B25 bomber airplanes at Burbank, California. Upon returning to Erskine in 1945, Walter purchased the Mobil gas station, and also used part of that space to operate a radio sales and repair shop. In 1955, he sold the gas station to focus exclusively on electronics and appliances. He was the owner and operator of "Howe's Radio & TV".Walter was united in marriage to Cora Molden on September 2, 1956. From that time on, Walter and Cora owned and operated the business together until their retirement in 1986.Walter enjoyed woodworking, baking his favorite treats in the kitchen, playing the accordion, and watching his grandsons grow up. In his younger days, he spent time at Olson's Point in Buffalo, Minnesota, and loved fishing. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine.Walter has resided at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine since August 2005, where he passed away peacefully on April 25, 2008 at the age of 89 years.Surviving him are his wife, Cora of Erskine, his daughter, Shirley and her husband Brice Erickson of Eagan, Minnesota, his son, Wesley and his wife Mukta of Erskine, and three grandsons, Jared, Grant, and Collin Erickson. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Maynard, Ernest, Raymond, and Stanley, and four sisters, Iva Johnson, Stella Howe, Clara Casselman, and Ruth Howe."Blessed be the memory of Walter Howe".
