Walter Ashling

Walter Ashling, age 83, of Erskine, MN passed away on Monday (June 11th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (June 16th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Ernest Christensen officiating. Interment will be in Lima Cemetery, rural Erskine. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Flag presentation will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Walter John Ashling was born on June 21, 1923 in Winger, Minnesota to parents John and Ida (Bennes) Ashling. He grew up and attended school in rural Winger. He was united in marriage to Betty Mitchell on October 14, 1944. Following their marriage, they farmed for a couple of years near Winger prior to moving to South St. Paul, where they lived for the next 36 years. Walter served his country in United States Army from February of 1945 until his honorable discharge in June of 1946. Upon Walter's retirement, they moved back to Erskine where they since resided.Walter loved going out to eat with his "buddy". He loved dancing and playing bingo with his wife Betty. He also loved to drive his car to auctions where he would purchase many treasures. He most of all loved spending time with his family.Walter passed away peacefully loved by his entire family on Monday, June 11, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 83 years.He is survived by two daughters, Bonny (Bill) Perkins of Cottage Grove, MN and Vanessa (Gary) Seils of Inver Grove Heights, MN; four grandchildren, Brian (Jo) Perkins, Beth (Lee) Kwiatkowski, Jason (Jean) Seils and Melissa Seils; five great grandchildren, Connor Kwiatkowski, Kiel Kwiatkowski, Alaina Perkins, Hendrik Seils and Reiner Seils; two sisters, Hazel Nelson of Fertile, MN and Bernice (Ray) Sannes of Fertile, MN. Numerous other relatives also survive.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; his parents, John and Ida; and brother, Bud.Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Walter's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
