Walfred Frisk, age 91, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday (February 22nd) at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (February 26th) at Salem Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the McIntosh V.F..W. Post #6891. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Walfred Leonard Frisk was born March 8th, 1917 in Lessor Township, near McIntosh, Minnesota, the son of Aron and Lydia (Carlson) Frisk. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church and attended rural school near his home in Lessor Township. Walfred enjoyed music and played guitar with his brothers at many area barn dances.Walfred was employed on several farms near East Grand Forks, Minnesota before entering military service during World War II. He served with the 195th field artillery battalion for the US Army from 1941 until 1945. Walfred was a gunner in England, France and Germany. He was united in marriage to Wenonah Catherine DeFrang July 9th 1942 in Fort Ord, California. They had one daughter, Candace Cae. After the war he farmed and made his home with his brother, Alf, south of McIntosh until his retirement. Walfred served on the Salem church board and the McIntosh creamery board for many years. After living on the farm for over 60 years, Walfred and Wenonah moved into Poplar Meadows in McIntosh, and the last few years lived in First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, attending all the extra-curricular activities for his grandchildren Tiffany and Jeff, and in later years spending time with his great grandchildren Parker and Mya.Walfred is survived by his daughter Candace and her husband Steve Haaven of McIntosh, MN, grandchildren Tiffany Haaven and her fiancé Chris Wirth of Fargo, ND, Jeff and his wife Heidi Haaven of Fargo, ND, and great grandchildren Parker and Mya. He is preceded in death by his wife Wenonah, parents Aaron and Lydia, brothers Arthur, Ernest, Carl, Alf, Alvin and Dean, sisters Esther Erickson and Edith Hegland, and several nieces and nephews.
