Virgil Quick, age 81, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday (September 6th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (September 12th) at the United Methodist Church in Fosston with the Rev. Lois Ball officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (September 11th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Virgil Lorne Quick was born on December 16, 1926 in Dazey, North Dakota to parents Philip and Lulu (Knapp) Quick. He moved to Minnesota at age nine and attended the Steinbrenner school in Heier Township through the eighth grade. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1944. After high school, he moved to Minneapolis where he worked as a baggage handler for a major airline.On June 7, 1952 he married Joyce Elaine Hillstad. They moved back to Fosston to farm his parents home place after Virgil's father suffered a heart attack. In 1956 they purchased their own farm east of Fosston. They moved in to Fosston in 1960 and Virgil began working road construction/pipeline running heavy equipment.He retired in 1988 and spent many years traveling and touring the United States and abroad. Virgil enjoyed flying his own airplane, gardening, woodworking, fishing, hunting, restoring old tractors, playing pinochle, and watching the Twins. He was also caretaker of Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston for many years. Virgil will be remembered for his many stories.Virgil passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 81 years, eight months and 21 days.He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Fosston; son, Dan (Deb) Quick of Flandreau, SD; daughter, Desiree (Todd) Jevning of East Grand Forks, MN; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters, Mamora Hoover of Kansas City, MO and Helen (John) Mielke of Woodville, WI; one brother, Dean (Doris) Quick of Bristow, VA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Yvonne Bakke; and two brothers-in-law, Conrad Bakke and Maurice Hoover.
