Vernon Wold

Vernon Wold, age 85, of rural Trail, MN, passed away on Monday (August 6th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (August 10th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (August 9th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Gonvick American Legion Post #304 and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Vernon Norris Wold was born on August 28, 1926 on the family farm in Eden Township, rural Trail, Minnesota to parents Selmer and Selma (Jacobson) Wold. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.He entered into the service with the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines as a member of the Military Police. Vernon was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm.On March 25, 1950, Vernon was united in marriage to Ruby Ione Dunrud. They had three children, Joanne, Sandy, and Bradley. Vernon spent his life farming the family homestead. He also worked at the sunflower plant in Gonvick for several years. He became the Gully Grain Elevator Manager in 1971 and retired in 1989.Vernon had a deep love for his family and friends. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, working with horses, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was constantly on his four wheeler checking out the farm; especially his little log cabin. He sang at numerous nursing homes, funerals, and community events.Vernon passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 85 years, 11 months and nine days.He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby; three children, Joanne (Robert) Scott of Maple Grove, MN, Sandy (Prakash) Mathew of Fargo, ND, and Bradley (Marie) Wold of Harris, MN; seven grandchildren, Trevor, Josh, Chris, Jenna, Sam, Rebecca, and Jacob; brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Wold of Fosston; sister, Myrtle Osmonson of McIntosh; and sister-in-law, Carol Wold of Fosston.He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Esther; and brother, Lloyd.
