Vernon Johnson

Vernon Johnson, age 79, of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday (October 18th) at his home. As per Vernon's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Vernon Andrew Johnson was born on January 18, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Carl and Myrtle (Carlson) Johnson. He grew up on his grandmother's farm, the Carrie Carlson farm, in Queen Township and attended school at Fosston High School. At the age of 17, Vernon went to live with his father in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from Lakeview High School.Following high school, Vernon began working at Commonwealth Edison in Chicago. It was also at this time that he met and married Marie Angelo Johnson, spending the next 32 years together. Vernon retired from Commonwealth Edison after 44 years of faithful service. After his retirement, Vernon would spend six months at the farm in Queen Township and then six months in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2001, he met his life companion, Patricia, who accompanied him on his travels.Vernon enjoyed his life at home with Patricia and his friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and the outdoors. Most of all he loved the time that he could spend with his children and grandchildren.Survivors include four children, Kathleen (Ken) Yetka, Tina (Steve) Healy, and Ron (Loretta) Johnson, all of Palatine, IL, and Kim (Darren) Stahulak of St. Charles, IL. Also surviving is his companion, Patricia Flynn of St. Petersburg, FL; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; and friends Duane (Annette) Dunrud of Detroit Lakes, MN and Casey (Chris) Witek of Park Ridge, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents.
