Verner Fredericks

Verner Fredericks, age 82, of Fertile, MN, and formerly of Mentor, MN and Crookston, MN, passed away on Monday (September 16th) at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (September 20th) at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with the Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Mentor. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (September 19th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine. Fredericks was born on June 12, 1931 in Donnelly Township, Marshall County, Minnesota to parents Lawrence and Borghild (Laudal) Fredericks. He grew up in Donnelly Township and attended country school at the Donnelly School. Verner entered the United States Army in November of 1948, serving during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in October of 1951. Verner then returned home to northern Minnesota and began work at the local hardware store in Stephen, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Jeane Faye Nelson on April 2, 1955 in Stephen. After their marriage, they lived and raised their four children in the Crookston and Mentor areas. Verner worked for Solar Gas when they moved to Crookston and then for Iron Worker's Local 793 until his retirement. Jeane passed away on December 4, 2011.He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor, the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post #22 and while living in Crookston, he was an active member of the Agassiz Riders horse club. He liked fishing, deer hunting, and camping and Verner and Jeane regularly attended and enjoyed the Winter Shows in Crookston for many years.Verner passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, Minnesota at the age of 82 years, three months and four days.Survivors include three children, Donavan (Shelley) Fredericks of Red Lake Falls, MN, James (Melissa) Fredericks of Mentor, MN, and Jolene McCollum (fiancé, Scott Baril) of Fertile, MN; son-in-law, Ron Gagner of Mentor, MN; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Cindy) Frederick of Albertville, MN and Donald Fredericks (Special Friend, Janis Betts) of Keaau, HI; and one sister, Ardyce Hart of Grand Forks, ND. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jeane; daughter, Denise Gagner; and his parents.Honorary Pallbearers: All of Verner's grandchildren and great grandchildrenActive Pallbearers: Adam Fredericks, Lee Fredericks, Daniel Gagner, Jestin Gagner, Shane Fredericks, and Austin McCollum.
