Verna Walstad, age 90, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 31st at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 2:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Verna Norma Walstad was born on June 30, 1920 at Spring Grove, MN to parents Steinar and Caren (Oseth) Walstad. She grew up in Spring Grove where she was baptized in the Lutheran faith. In 1933, she moved from Spring Grove to the McIntosh, MN area, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Later Verna moved to Fosston, MN where she has since resided. Verna was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.During her life she was employed at the Anoka Ammunition Plant, Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, and the Fosston Potato Plant.Verna was a compassionate and caring person. Although she had no children of her own, she was like a mother and grandmother to all her family members. She always put others before herself, but her Lord and Savior was always first in her life.Verna loved gardening, and she loved to cook, read, play games, and she loved animals.She was able to be in her apartment doing all her own work until the time of her death. After a short illness, she passed away at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston on March 31, 2011 at the age of 90 years.She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Melvin (Palma) Simonson of Fosston; one sister-in-law, Wilma Lucken of McIntosh; one niece, Kathryn (Daniel) Carlson of Fosston; two nephews, Dennis (Margot) Simonson of Fosston and Dean (Janell) Walstad of Oklee, MN; and several cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
