Verna Affeldt

Verna Affeldt, age 86, of Fosston, MN passed away on Wednesday, January 19th at Essentia Health Long Term Care in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24th at 11:00 AM at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at Carlin - Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials can be directed to the door replacement fund at Kingo Lutheran Church, and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Verna Lorraine Brekke was born on December 12, 1924 in Fisher MN to parents Martin and Tillie (Sveningson) Brekke. Verna was confirmed at Fisher Lutheran Church and graduated from Fisher High School in 1942. After graduation Verna lived with her sister Thelma and husband Jack in Fosston, MN where she worked at the Fosston Coop Creamery. She met and married Lee Affeldt on March 31, 1946. They had two children, Susan and Warren. Verna and Lee moved to the farm in the fall of 1950 and remained there for their entire married life.Verna was an active member of Kingo Lutheran Church where she participated in teaching Friday School, Circles, Ladies Aid, Choir and servant groups. Verna was also a member of the Fosston Ladies Auxiliary. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts and an active volunteer with Girl Scout Troop #36.Verna loved entertaining family and friends with coffee parties and family dinners. She particularly loved her four grandchildren; Scott, Jon, Kelly and Mike and recently her two great grandchildren; Lillian and Lincoln.Verna passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 surrounded by loving family, at Essentia Health Long Term Care in Fosston at the age of 86 years, one month and seven days.Survivors include one daughter Susan (Bob) Peck of Chanhassen, MN; one son, Warren (Deb) Affeldt of Fosston; four grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Anderson of Princeton, MN, Jon (Christina) Anderson of Chaska, MN, Kelly Affeldt of Shakopee, MN, and Mike Affeldt of Fosston; and two great grandchildren, Lillian Eleanor Anderson and Lincoln Robert Anderson. Nieces and nephews also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee in 2009; a brother, Irvin (Alma) Brekke and a sister Thelma (Jack) Harris.
