Sydney Hanson

Sydney Hanson, age 92, of Erskine, MN passed away on Thursday, June 20th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at 10:30 AM at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN with Rev Dale Mellgren officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center in McIntosh, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in McIntosh, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com. Sydney Jerome Hanson was born on November 25, 1920 in Woodside Township, rural Erskine, MN to Thomas and Sina (Hoff) Hanson. He attended Sylvanook Country School in Woodside and was baptized and confirmed at Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine. Sydney was united in marriage to Alta Simonson on February 10, 1943. After their marriage they lived in Woodside Township except for a brief move to Thief River Falls and Vining, MN. He farmed the family farm and also worked for Ray Martin Gospel Sign Company and the Erskine Creamery. He started work as a maintenance man for Pioneer Memorial Care Center at Erskine in 1966 until his retirement in 1983. He had devotions every morning over the loudspeaker for the residents and staff. He loved his work at Pioneer and continued to volunteer there and served on the Board of Directors after retirement. He also worked at Ace Hardware in Fosston, MN and for Erskine Housing. Sydney moved into Pioneer Memorial Care Center in March 2010 after Alta passed away. He enjoyed the spiritual activities especially devotions with Ben Ramse and Nola Hanson. He appreciated the wonderful care he received while at Pioneer. Sydney passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 92 years. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Dave) Bauer of Erskine and Marvelyn (Darrel) Johnson of McIntosh, MN; one son, Rickey (Tamra) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN; nine grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diane Hanson Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN; one brother, Clinton (Lois) Hanson of Cormorant Lake, MN; one brother-in-law, Don (Betty) Simonson of Mentor, MN; sisters-in-law, Lila (Earl) Lucken of Winger, MN and Kate Simonson of Mentor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Alta; son, Ron; grandson, Chris; infant granddaughter, Kathryn; brother, Lloyd and his wife Beatrice; and sister, Clarice and her husband Elmer Gravdahl.
