Steven Johnson

Steven Johnson, age 59, from rural Fosston, MN passed away suddenly from an unexpected illness on Wednesday, December 9th at his home near Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 14th at 2:30 PM at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fosston with Rev. John Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at the church cemetery, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.Steven Clark Johnson was born on March 2, 1950 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Jerome "Bud" and Grace (Benson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. He grew up in Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School in 1968. Steve joined the United States Navy, serving for four years as a radio operator on the USS Goldsboro off the coast of Vietnam. After his military service, Steve attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio and then the University of Minnesota Crookston for two years.He was united in marriage to Kathleen Olson on May 3, 1975 at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church near Fosston. They lived in Fosston until 1996 when they moved to their new home in Columbia Township. He has worked for Sun Opta Food Products in Fosston for the past 20 years. He was a member of Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, and served on the church council. Steve had his pilots license and loved aviation. He enjoyed golf, hunting, gardening, movies, watching football, wine making, music, cooking, and outdoor games. He also enjoyed playing video games with Travis and Tyler, and spending time with family and friends. He had a very special relationship with his grandson, Joshua.Steve passed away suddenly from an unexpected illness on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at his home near Fosston at the age of 59 years.Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Fosston; daughter, Tracy (Greg) Hendrickson of Fosston; sons, Travis of Sartell, MN and Tyler of Fosston; grandson, Joshua Lee of Fosston; his parents, Jerome "Bud" and Grace Johnson of Fosston; mother-in-law, Mercedes Beckstrom of Fosston; brothers, Dr. Mike (Gaynell) Johnson of Watertown, SD and Tim (Karen) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND; brother and sisters-in-law, Mike (Karen) Olson of Fosston, JoAnn (Tom) Warner of Roseau, MN, Gerald (Chris) Beckstrom of Fosston. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Miranda Lee; son-in-law, Patrick Lee; sister, Deborah Johnson; brother, Mark Johnson; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
