Stanley Strand, age 82, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday (February 5th) at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 9th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine in the spring. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. An online register book is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Stanley Gordon Strand was born on March 4, 1925, in Woodside Township, to parents John and Amelia Skiple Strand. Stan grew up in rural Erskine, Minnesota, and attended school in Woodside. He was baptized and confirmed at Rodnes Lutheran Church. In 1950 he began serving in the U.S. Army, including an assignment in Germany, prior to receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.Stan was united in marriage to Bonnie Anderson on November 14, 1953 in Erskine. They lived in Mentor, Minnesota until 1955, before making their home in Erskine for the past 52 years. He was employed in Mentor and Erskine by Midland Co-op Services for much of his working life; and, after his retirement, helped maintain Polk County parks in the summer months. He served for many years on the Erskine Fire Department; and was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine.Stanley Strand passed away on February 5, 2008, at his home in Erskine, just one month before his 83rd birthday. Survivors include Bonnie, his wife of 54 years; four daughters: Renee (Ron) Howe, Erskine; Jackie (Jeff) Hendrickson, Dickinson, North Dakota; Jill (Jeff) Sartori, Crofton, Maryland; Becky (Brian) Anderson, Cambridge, Minnesota; and one son, Jerome Strand of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Erin Howe (Brent) Heemstra, Tracy Howe (Tom) Wild, Brittany Hendrickson, Leslie Hendrickson, Michael Sartori, Andrea Sartori, Brady Anderson, Alexis Anderson, and Jeffrey Anderson.He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Henning Strand, Gehard Strand, and Reuben Strand.Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Stan's many friends he was privileged to have over the years.
