Stanley Brekke, age 85, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Tuesday (November 17th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (November 22nd) at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh with the Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Stanley Thorvald Brekke was born on November 30, 1923 in Lessor Township, rural McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Albert and Selma (Midboe) Brekke. He grew up in Lessor Township, attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1943. Following high school, he began work as a mechanic for Hoffard's Garage in McIntosh.Stanley was united in marriage to Lorraine Hanson on June 21, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine. Following their marriage, they lived for a short time in Fairbanks, Alaska before returning to McIntosh where Stanley and Lorraine both worked for Haagenson-Tranby Construction Company.In 1955, Stanley owned and operated Brekke Standard Oil in McIntosh. During that time, he also operated the International Harvester Implement where he sold farm machinery, school buses, trucks and used cars. In addition, Stanley farmed and and raised hereford cattle. Stanley was in business for 50 years until his retirement in 2005.He was a life member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church and served with Gideon's International for many years. He loved farming and raising beef cattle though spending time with his family was his priority. Stanley especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.Stanley passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 85 years.Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Lorraine of McIntosh; two daughters, Ruth (Troy) Palmer of McIntosh and Renae (Roy) Davis of Waunakee, WI; grandchildren, Matthew Lalley of Seattle, WA, Clark (Jenna) Palmer of International Falls, MN, Craig (Lacy) Palmer of McIntosh, and Robert and Paige Davis of Waunakee, WI; two sisters, Bernice (Ervin) Hanson of Erskine, and Eleanore (Melvin) Hovland of Sisseton, SD; also surviving are sister and brother-in-law, Don and Mildred Hansen of McIntosh. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Angela; brother, Lester; sisters, Ione Hansen and Myrtle Palm; and brother-in-law, Cal Palm.Honorary Pallbearers will be the Gideons.Active Pallbearers will be Stanley's nephews, Jim Brekke, Mark Hansen, Keith Hansen, Rick Palm, Steve Palm, Steve Hanson, Nathan Hanson, James Hanson, David Hovland and Mark Hans
