Sidney Reindahl, Sr. age 93, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 29th, at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6th, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery, rural Oklee, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the National Guard Honors Team and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com. Sidney LeRoy Reindahl was born on December 28, 1921 in Trail, Minnesota to parents Theodore and Valborg Bjorgum Reindahl. He was united in marriage to Hedwig Sikora on August 26, 1943 in Oklee, Minnesota. Sidney entered the United States Army on March 5, 1943 as a member of the U.S. Army 83rd Infantry Division. He served in five campaigns in the European Theatre during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious acts in a combat zone. He received his honorable discharge on October 5, 1945 and returned home to his wife and to raise a family.Sidney worked as a miner for Reserve Mining in Babbitt, Minnesota for 30 years until the mine shut down. He was a skilled mechanic and welder. They have lived in Fosston for the past five years. He loved to hunt and fish; and he loved the American West and enjoyed playing the violin. He was a hard-working, honest man and will be dearly missed by his family.Sidney passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 after a short stay in the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine at the age of 93.Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Hedwig, of Fosston; four children, Sidney Reindahl, Jr. (Darlene) of Virginia, MN, Cheryl Hastings (Charles) of Emerald Hills, CA, Sedona Reindahl-Fossand of Bemidji, MN, and Gene Reindahl of Marshall, MN; grandchildren, Darryn (Dana) Fossand, Dana Erickson, Erica Fossand, Jennifer (Nate) Ainsworth, Charles (Sarah) Hastings, Shannon Reindahl, Melanie Pearson, Wendy Pearson, Heidi Reindahl, Danielle Reindahl, Erin Schunk, and Katrina Reindahl; and three sisters, Olga Dahlen, Corrine Roisland, and Dellys Reindahl.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kent, Harold, and Leonard; and sisters, Gladys Reindahl and Evelyn Lillo.Pallbearers: Darryn Fossand, Justin Fossand, Shannon Reindahl, Charles Hastings, Nate Ainsworth and Joshua Fossand.
