Sidney Ostenaa, age 99, from McIntosh, MN passed away on Saturday, August 27th at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston, MN. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the memorial service. Interment of cremains will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Sidney Odell Ostenaa was born in King Township, rural McIntosh, MN on the home farm on October 21, 1916 to parents Olaus and Sara (Newton) Ostenaa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended country school, and school in McIntosh. He was united in marriage to Olga Svien in 1947. They were blessed with one son DeWayne who farmed partnership with his dad until his sudden death in June 2008. They raised dairy, beef cattle, and hogs. They also raised potatoes for 34 years. Sidney was the last survivor of the ten men who incorporated and built and organized the McIntosh Potato Plant. Levi Hagen was the manager and they contracted the potatoes to J. R. Simplot in Crookston, MN. After the Simplot plant burned, Sidney and DeWayne quit raising potatoes, and raised wheat and soybeans. Sidney enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods and traveling, including winters in California and a trip to Hawaii. On Saturday, August 27, 2016 Sidney passed away at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston, MN at the age of 99 years, 10 months, and 6 days. He is survived by his wife, Olga of McIntosh; daughter-in-law, Lois Ostenaa of McIntosh; sister-in-law, Lillian Enevold of Kalispell, MT; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaus and Sara Ostenaa; his son, DeWayne Punky Ostenaa; sisters, Ida Ytzen, Gertrude Brekke, and Thea Danielson; in-laws, Joe and Bess Svien, Marvin Enevold, Orlyn and Marion Knudson, Joe and Helen Dyrdahl, and Ralph Svien.
