Shirley Schultz

Shirley Schultz, age 80, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday, May 18th, at Essentia Health First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23rd at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby, MN with Rev. Gene Lilienthal officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, May 22nd at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday afternoon. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.Shirley Jean Schultz was born on April 6, 1936, in Pine Lake Township, rural Gonvick, MN, to parents Edgar and Amanda (Nordeng) Hinden. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In 1954, she graduated as valedictorian from Gonvick High School. She then attended Mayville State College, graduating in 1957 with a teaching diploma.On October 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bernard Schultz in Fosston, MN. Shirley began her teaching career in Eveleth, MN. A year later, they moved to the Halstad area where Shirley taught for a year at a country school near Caledonia, ND, and then for a year in Halstad. In 1960, they moved to Fosston and began building their home. Shirley taught for a year at Ebro corner country school, followed by several years in Winger as principal and as a 7th-8th grade teacher. In 1968, she began teaching sixth grade at Magelssen Elementary School in Fosston where she was honored as Fosston's School District Teacher of the Year for 1989-90. She retired in 1994.Shirley and Bernie spent many hours together building a log home on their hobby farm near Lengby where they also raised horses. Shirley enjoyed reading, flowers, playing cards with family, and spending time with her grandsons. She was a long time member of First English Lutheran Church in Fosston and then a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby.On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, Shirley Schultz passed away at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 80 years.She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Bernie of Fosston; daughter Barb Wandschneider and her husband David of Fosston; grandsons Jeff and Cole Wandschneider; brother Larry (Donna) Hinden of St. Peter, MN; sister Carole (Ray) Tharaldson of Gully, MN; sisters-in-law Brenda Hinden Shreiner of Ephrata, PA, and Norma Schultz of Richey, MT; several nieces and nephews also survive.She was preceded in death by her son Bill, her parents, and her brother Leslie Hinden.Blessed be her memory
