Shirley Fitzhugh, age 80, of Mentor, MN, passed away on Saturday (May 31st) at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (June 7th) at Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine with the Rev. Peter Satren officiating. Interment will be in Rodnes Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and there is an online guestbook available at carlinhoialmen.com.Shirley was born on April 5, 1928 to Torkel and Julia (Tvedt) Saga in the Erskine, Minnesota area of Polk County. She was confirmed in the faith at Rodness Lutheran Church. In 1946 she graduated from Mentor Public School.Shirley married John William Fitzhugh at her parent's home in 1954. They had one daughter Jacquelyn Ann.Shirley was a waitress at Leon & Eddy's cafe in Erskine. Years later she moved to Montana to live with her daughter. Being a colorful woman and strong in her beliefs she enjoyed traveling and seeing the many wonders of our great land. Eventually settling in Phoenix, Arizona she shared many years with the love of her life Emilio Garcia. While living in Arizona she enjoyed working at a hospital daycare. After Emilio's death she lived with her daughter in Montana until she returned home to Mentor where she enjoyed her apartment and the company of many family members and friends.Shirley left behind a brother, Leland H. Saga, Mentor and a sister, Minerva Schantzen. Warren. Her daughter Jacquelyn, grandchildren, Samuel Kulchar and Allysia (Randy) Appleby, great grandchildren, Kasper & Colin all of Billings, MT and many nieces and nephews.Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Rayheart and Meredith and Herbert Saga.
