Shirley DeFrang, age 80, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 5th, at McIntosh Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh, at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home, serving McIntosh, and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Shirley Ann Ferden DeFrang was born on February 27, 1938 on their family farm near McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Kenneth and Ida (Nesland) Ferden. She was baptized on April 10, 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church north of McIntosh. She attended country school in Lessor Township and graduated from McIntosh High School on May 31, 1956.After graduation, she went on a cross-country trip to California and talked frequently of all the things she did.On November 18, 1956, she was married to Derry DeFrang in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They came back home to the DeFrang homestead so she could help her mother-in-law "Grandma Lillian" with DeFrang Rest Home and to make their home, where it is now.Shirley worked at the V.F.W. as a bookkeeper for five years but the remainder was working at Mac Manor until her retirement in 2003 but continued to work until she got sick in 2010.Shirley had been a part of ladies' aide and quilting group in Trinity Lutheran and Our Savior's Lutheran. She loved flowers and gardening and was an excellent cook. She also enjoyed animals and being in nature and outdoors.Shirley decided it would be time to go home to be with family and her Savior on December 5, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. She would be there to enjoy supper with Johnnie and her family. She probably made supper!In this life, she left her husband of 62 years, Derry John of McIntosh; sons, Dan (wife, Darcie) of Duluth, MN, and Steve of McIntosh; daughter, Suzann (wife, Stacy) of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Hilary, Kayla, Bobbie, Derek, Joshua, and Spencer; and 5 ½ great grandchildren.She went home to be with her family. Siblings, Kermit, Donna and Ilene; her mother and father, Ida and Kenneth; and her beloved first born, Johnnie. Go rest high, Mom. We love you.
