Ruby Ellen Stiegelmeyer was born on June 1, 1934 in Cohasset, Minnesota to Jay and Katherine (Andrew) Stiegelmeyer, the youngest of seven children. She attended school in Cohasset and moved to the Fosston area with her family in 1951 where she continued her education.Ruby was married to Richard Olson in 1954 and they started a family in McIntosh. They moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1960 where Richard was employed by the Minnesota State Highway Department. In 1967 Ruby moved back to the Fosston area with her four sons.She married Alf Holt in 1968 and lived on a farm south of Fosston in rural Bejou, where they also operated a greenhouse from 1972-80. In 2006 Ruby and Alf moved to Cornerstone Residence in Fosston where Alf passed away the following year.Ruby moved to Poplar Meadows apartments in McIntosh in 2010. She met many good friends there and enjoyed spending time with them playing cards, bingo and watching movies. Ruby loved gardening, in some years having over 100 tomato plants. She was a great cook and baker, everyone loved her fresh buns and cinnamon rolls. She loved her animals and always had at least one cat in her life. She also loved to sew and knit. She was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church and Bejou VFW Auxiliary Post #1226.Ruby passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at her home in Poplar Meadows at the age of 78 years, six months and seven days.Survivors include four sons, Russell (Ginger) Olson of Union, OH, Rodney Olson of Fosston, Robert Olson of McIntosh (Rhonda), and Randall (Tina) Olson of Fosston, two daughters; Robin (Leroy) Colsen of Frazee, and Ruth (Duane) Hotten of Fosston; daughter-in-law, Linda Olson of Erskine, MN; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, a grandson, a great granddaughter and a daughter-in-law, Diane Olson.
