Roy Schleicher, age 95 of McIntosh, MN passed away on Saturday, April 26th at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Mark Peske officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday beginning with a prayer service from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. and open visitation to follow from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the McIntosh Community Center; there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Roy Jacob Fredrick Schleicher was born September 1, 1918 in the granary on the east side of the lake on the family farm north of McIntosh, MN. He was the eldest son of Arthur and Elsie (Roth) Schleicher. Roy lost his father at age 15, he finished high school at 16, farmed the land with his younger brothers Lloyd and Gordon, and at age 19 began working at the Crookston Milling Company in McIntosh. Roy was married to Adelle Oppegaard on September 6, 1941, and together they raised three children. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, camping, traveling, card playing (especially whist), square dancing, gardening, and playing a banjo or guitar with other local musicians. In 1961 he purchased the grain elevator, renaming it McIntosh Farm Services, and greatly expanded and improved the business over the years. He also joined others in the business ventures of a potato washing plant in McIntosh and laundromats in Erskine and Oklee. Upon retiring in 1981, Roy and Adelle spent the winter months in Harlingen, TX, and the warm months at their home in McIntosh. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh and served in many capacities, and also served on the McIntosh Public School board. Throughout his life he was a proud supporter of the town of McIntosh. On Saturday, April 26, 2014 Roy passed away at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston, MN at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his children Ray (Pat) Schleicher, Jean (Michael) McCabe, Fern (Jonathan) Frusti; eight grandchildren Dana (Paul) Sorce, Joe (Heather) Kirkeby, Lora (John) Eskandary, Jeff Kirkeby, Jennifer (Michael) Maier, Jana Kirkeby, Teresa (Craig) Gresham, Katie (Tom) George; seven great grandchildren; brother Lloyd Schleicher; and sister-in-law Laverne Schleicher. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Adelle; brother Gordon Schleicher; sister-in-law Gladys Schleicher; and parents Art and Elsie Schleicher.
