Roy Quam, age 95, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 11th, at McIntosh Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18th, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Karl Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday morning at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home, serving McIntosh. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Roy Milford Quam was born on November 12, 1921 in Lessor Township, rural McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Iver and Annie (Qualle) Quam. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh. After attending the Voxland School through the eighth grade, he completed high school and graduated from McIntosh High School in the class of 1940. On December 31, 1944 Roy was united in marriage to Clara M. Syverson at Vernes Lutheran Church. They raised their children and continued to work the dairy and grain farm where Roy had grown up, managing more and more of the operation as his father got older. At retirement, they moved ½ mile to the north. Roy continued with a few cattle, gardening and worked many hours in his shop making articles of wood. Many friends, neighbors and family received beautiful scroll-sawed shelves, Kleenex box covers, or other articles made by Roy.One day after having a stroke, Roy passed away on March 11, 2017 at the McIntosh Senior Living at the age of 95 years. He had come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as a young man. He loved Jesus, lived for Him, and raised his family with that priority. Especially in his last years he longed to be home with Jesus. Roy is survived by seven children, Lindell (LaVonne) Quam of Osakis, MN, Bonnie (Larry) Kallod of Moorhead, MN, Miriam (Norman) Dahl of Borup, MN, Philip (Faye) Quam of McIntosh, MN, Lowell (Paula) Quam of Fergus Falls, MN, Donald (Marlys) Quam of Fergus Falls, MN, Grace (Rodney) Mathsen of Ada, MN; grandchildren Rochelle Swenson, Paul (Kara) Quam, Marla (Mike) Olstad, Darren (Michelle) Kallod, Anthony (Ann) Kallod, Rebekah (Lawrence) Backman, Nathanael (Tiffany) Dahl, Rachel (Eric) Rasmussen, Benjamin (Amber) Dahl, Jonathan (Melissa) Dahl, Andrew (Jessica) Quam, Heidi (David) Hafvenstein, Shannon (Matt) Albrecht, Laura (Tim) Johnson, Peter (Singne) Quam, Paul (Linnea) Quam, Lynda (Preston) Trotter, Luisa Quam, Lois Quam, Kjirsti (Ryan) Nilsen, Ronda (Brian) Clark, Nicole (Jeff) Erichs, Karla (Arick) Follingstad, Justin Quam, Bethany (Seth) Holte, Joshua (Michelle) Mathsen, Alisha (Josiah) Grothe, Nathan (Leah) Mathsen, Carrie Mathsen, Nicholas Mathsen; 69 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.Roy was preceded in death by his dear wife Clara with whom he spent 58 years; daughter Doreen and her husband Owan Erickson and their son Timothy; two great grandsons, Traaten Nilsen and Samuel Johnson; Roy's parents and all his 8 siblings and their spouses.Roy and Clara chose one word to be inscribed on their tombstone, REDEEMED. It expressed their testimony and desire for all who follow after.
