Roy C. Johnson, 86, of rural Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday (January 9th) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (January 13th) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN with the Rev. Arvid Salvhus officiating. Interment will be in First English Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mentor, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (January 12th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine. Online register book is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Roy Curtis Johnson was born on June 24, 1920 to Herbert and Anna (Olson) Johnson in Badger Township, northwest of Erskine, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at First English Lutheran Church in Mentor, Minnesota. Roy attended country school in Badger Township and farmed with his father until July of 1942 when he left for the war. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II where he served as a radio and airplane mechanic in the Pacific Islands. He received his honorable discharge in July of 1945 with the rank of Corporal and returned home.Roy was united in marriage to Gertrude Corrine Lerfald on April 12, 1950 at United Lutheran Church (now Grace Lutheran Church) in Erskine. Roy and Gertrude farmed and raised horses and registered Brown Swiss cattle on a portion of land northwest of Erskine that Roy had purchased from his father. He milked cows for many years before he began to raise horses. Roy loved his horses and his farm and especially enjoyed working on the farm with his son, Dave.Roy passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at his home farm in Badger Township at the age of 86 years, six months and 16 days.Survivors include his wife, Gertrude of rural Erskine; two sons, Curtis of Lawrence, KS and Dave (Karen) of Erskine; one daughter, Joan Johnson of Moorhead, MN; one granddaughter, Korrine Johnson of Grand Forks, ND; one grandson, Christian Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN; one brother, Truman (Dorothy) Johnson of McIntosh, MN; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Johnson of Erskine; and many nieces nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin Johnson; and one sister, Agnes (Johnson) Hovland.Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Merlyn Alme, Leslie Alme, Val Carver, Randy Lee, and Ray Hovland.
