Robert Tangen

Robert "Bob" Tangen, age 70, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 30th, surrounded by family who loved him at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4th, at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh with the Rev. Jill Torgerson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, May 3rd, at the McIntosh Community Center. Family will also greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the McIntosh V.F.W., Bailey-Throne American Legion of Erskine and the National Guard Honors Team. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Bob was born Jan 6th, 1947 and grew up in Roseau, Gentilly, Crookston and McIntosh with his parents Marion and Leslie Tangen and his sisters Diane and Susan.After serving in the United States Navy, Bob married Betty (Kiecker) on December 23, 1967. He worked for Burlington Northern railroad as a conductor and brakeman and retired after more than 30 years. They raised their children Kristen, Ryan, Erin and Nathan in Borup and McIntosh and welcomed Ellen, Ray, Jeanette (Nettie) and Jim into their family.Bob had an appetite for life and enjoyed spending time on his Grandparents farm in Bejou, hunting, fishing, trapping, storytelling, practical jokes, playing cards, bingo, spending time with his children and grandchildren and making sure everyone had more than enough to eat. He was proud to have given away more than 120 super size shoe horns to family and friends. Bob also enjoyed driving the countryside and visits to Beltrami National Forest. He was a big man with a big heart.He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Kristen (Bobby) Kimmell, Ryan (Rory) Tangen, Erin (Mike) Magelky, Nathan (Sunny) Tangen, James (Michelle) Merrick, Jeanette Fuentes, Ray (Colleen) Vaa, Ellen (Bruce) Vinnolla; sister, Susan (Lawerence) Berberich; and has been blessed with 13 awesome Grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Caleb, Sarah, Isaac, Carsten, Connor, Harper, Alexander, Jordan, John, Mary Beth, and Christine and great grandson Joseph.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane Smeby and great granddaughter Isabella. Honorary Pallbearers: Roger Pearson, Marvin Neste, Bruce Haaven, Jim Wertish, Mike Aakhus, Herman Voxland, and Dave Stordahl.
