Robert Mitzel, age 73, of Mentor, MN, passed away on Saturday (January 22nd) at his home. A memorial Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (April 30th) at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor with Father Tony Fernando presiding. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Robert LeRoy Mitzel was born on July 15, 1937 in New Deal, Montana to parents Andrew and Minnie (Horner) Mitzel. He grew up in the Mentor area and attended Mentor High School. Bob needed to leave school early to help his Dad on the family farm. He then worked construction in North Dakota and Minnesota, returning to the family farm in the mid 1970's to help his Dad after his Dad had a heart attack. Bob purchased the farm after his father passed away in 1984. In addition to farming, Bob was involved with area real estate and other financial ventures for many years. He was also the primary caregiver for his mother (Minnie Mitzel) for the past seven years. Bob truly cared for people. He enjoyed routine visits with many elderly people in the Mentor area. He gave of his time by checking on their wellbeing and always had time for good conversation, coffee and baked goods. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor and will be buried at St. Lawrence cemetery. Survivors include his mother, Minnie Mitzel of Mentor; four siblings, Irene (Don) Espeseth of Yuba City, CA, Donald (Sherry) Mitzel of Stockton, CA, Carol (Michael) LaPlante of Beavercreek, OH, and Curtis Mitzel of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law, Rebecca Mitzel of San Jose, CA; and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew and two brothers, Joseph and Roger.
