Robert Holm, age 85 of Fosston, MN passed away on Thursday, December 25th at his residence in Fosston. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 2:00 PM at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour before the memorial service at the funeral home on Friday, and interment of cremains will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh, MN at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Robert Earl Holm was born on September 7, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Robert Oli Holm and Annabelle (Lee) Holm. He lived in Detroit until the age of six when his father brought him to Halma, Minnesota where he grew up with his Aunt and Uncle, Art and Mae Oberg.He was baptized and confirmed in Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma. He attended school through the eighth grade in Halma and his freshman and sophomore years in Karlstad, Minnesota. He was active in sports while attending school, especially basketball and football.He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in Vienna, Austria until 1948. He married Gloria Spilde on October 24, 1948 and together they had four living children. In 1948 he attended the Wahpeton School of Science where he took courses in journalism and printing. He worked as a linotype operator for Argyle newspaper office and Hallock Enterprise. Bob was recalled into the Army in 1950 and served in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1952. After discharge from the Army he worked for Land-O-Lakes Company. He attended barber school in St. Paul, Minnesota and after completing the course he worked as a self-employed barber for twenty-two years.Bob married Audrey Marie Thompson Johnson on June 1, 1971 in Ashburn, Georgia. After moving to LeCenter, Minnesota, Bob worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in various states until his retirement in 1997. Bob and Audrey moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas after they retired and spent sixteen years there. They returned to the Fosston area in September of 2013. Bob loved to travel, including a trip to Ireland and two trips to Norway. He enjoyed playing golf and reading until his eyesight deteriorated.On Thursday, December 25, 2014, Bob passed away at his residence in Fosston at the age of 85 years.Bob is survived by his wife Audrey, his daughter Constance and (LeRoy) Cross of Isabel, South Dakota, his son Jonathan and (Karla) Holm of Fosston, and his son Dana Holm and Simone Sutherland of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Also surviving are four stepchildren: Michael Johnson of Bend, Oregon, Kent and (Barb) Johnson of North Pole, Alaska, Juanita (Johnson) Brown of Mesa, Arizona, and Lynn Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska. Other survivors include: sister-in-law Wanda and (Dick) LaVoi, and brother-in-law Noel and (Lillian) Thompson. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Lewis Holm.Blessed be his memory.
