Robert Bak, age 87, from McIntosh, MN passed away on Wednesday, January 25th at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh at a later date. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements.Robert Raymond Bak was born on April 18, 1924 to parents Ole and Ida (Garden) Bak at Fertile, MN. He attended country school in rural Fertile, and was baptized and confirmed at Sundal Lutheran Church.He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1951 as a Corporal before receiving his honorable discharge. Robert was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.Robert was married to Elvina Fox on October 9, 1954 in Mahnomen, MN. They made their home in McIntosh, MN. He worked at the sugar beet factory in Crookston for many years, and was a police officer in McIntosh. Robert and Elvina had one son, Daniel.Painting was his greatest hobby. He made many great scenic pictures in acrylics. Bob was an artist! He even made drawings while living at the nursing home.On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 Robert passed away at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, where he had resided since June 2010, at the age of 87 years.He is survived by a sister, Sybil Oakland of Fertile; two nieces, eight nephews, cousins, and two step-children.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvina in 2004; son, Daniel in 1994; brothers, Silas, Herbert, and Bertram; sisters, Ruth, Gloria, and Lorna; and step-son, Francis Fox.
