Richard Benson, age 63, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Friday (September 25th) at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (September 30th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (September 29th) at the McIntosh Community Center in McIntosh. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning at the church. Military honors will be provided by the McIntosh V.F.W. Post 6891. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Richard Willie Benson was born on March 19, 1946 in Crookston, Minnesota to parents Willie and Ina (Helling) Benson. He was baptized and confirmed at Dovre Lutheran Church in Winger, Minnesota and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1964. Richard entered the United States Air Force in September of 1964 and was stationed in Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge in September of 1968. After his military service, Richard lived in Minneapolis and started working in the field of elevator construction, service and repairs. He was united in marriage to Patti Goodwin on July 19, 1969. They lived in Minneapolis until returning home to McIntosh in 1980. Richard worked in the elevator trade for 40 years and also took pride in the fact he introduced several family members to the elevator business that he loved. Richard owned and operated Grand Forks Elevator Company from 1991 until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church serving a term as Trustee and McIntosh V.F.W. Post #6891. He liked to play cards and video games and had been an avid hunter and fisherman. Richard simply liked being outdoors. From being in the woods to enjoying the hummingbirds and orioles in his feeders at home, Richard enjoyed nature. Most of all, though, he loved spending time with his family. Richard passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks at the age of 63 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Patti of McIntosh; two daughters, Angie (Kent) Hamre and their children, Brooke and Tori of Albertville, MN, and Tricia (Brad) Scott and their children, Sydney and Tyler of Breezy Point, MN; his mother, Ina Mosser of Erskine, MN; two sisters, June Paulson of Minneapolis, and Kay (Wayne) Strand of Anoka, MN; twin brother, Reynold (Mary) Benson of Grand Forks; step brothers, Jim Mosser and Curtis (Mary Jean) Mosser, both of Minneapolis; and one step sister, Sandy (Jim) Berger of Walker, MN. Also surviving is Richard's aunt, Irene Helling of Winger, MN; sisters-in-law, Carol Carver and Marlys (Marsall) Weibye, both of Hillsboro, ND, Judy (Dave) Hagen and Lorene (Todd) Tranby, both of McIntosh; and brother-in-law, Les (Mary) Goodwin of McIntosh. Numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father; step-father, Kendall Mosser; mother and father-in-law, Millie and Richard Keller and John Leslie Morris Goodwin; brother-in-law, Howard Carver; and several aunts and uncles.
