Peggy Harthun

Winnifred "Peggy" Harthun, age 86, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday (June 12th) at Greenbush Community Nursing Home in Greenbush. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (June 17th) at First English Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Dean Bell officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday (June 16th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Winnifred Florence Washinsby Harthun was born October 18, 1921 to parents Herman and Helga Washinsby in their log home in rural Gonvick, Minnesota. She lived near Halstad, Minnesota for a time, and she and her family eventually moved to a farm southwest of Fosston in Heier Township. Peggy attended Mahnomen High School and graduated in 1940. On November 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Raymond Harthun, whom she had met several years earlier when the Washinsby family moved to the farm across the field from the Harthun family. Peggy and Raymond continued to live south of Fosston where they owned and operated a small farm until 1978, at which time they moved into town and resided on Indrelee Avenue in Fosston. Peggy also worked for a number of years as a nurse's aide at the Johnson Rest Home in Fosston, and in later years enjoyed a part time job at the Senior Employment Program Thrift Shop, less than a block from her house. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her home and her family. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, and actively participated in Ladies Aid. Peggy passed away on June 12, 2008, at the Greenbush Community Nursing Home at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 25 days.Survivors include her brother Richard Washinsby of Cass Lake, MN; four children, Nancy (Mrs. Donald) Schacher of Fosston, Deborah Hanson of Strathcona, MN, Jeffrey (and Diane) Harthun of Burnsville, MN, and Mary Lou (Mrs. Herman) Blasing of Marshall, MN, six grandchildren Miles Schacher, Tracy (Mrs. Steve) Grove, Tina Schacher, Daniel Curfman, Matthew Curfman and Christine (Mrs. Riley) Fish, and eleven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Wyatt, Morgan, Jasmin, Jessica, Madison, Tia, Gabrial, Alexandria, Laura and Sadie. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond, her parents, Helga and Herman Washinsby, and an infant great-grandson, Travis Curfman. Pallbearers will be Miles Schacher, Tracy Grove, Tina Schacher, Daniel Curfman, Matthew Curfman and Christine Fish.
