Paul Thompson, age 65, of Lengby, MN, passed away on unexpectedly on Sunday, April 1st, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6th, at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. John Ragan officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby. Paul Charles Thompson was born on July 9, 1952 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to parents Kenneth and Marian Gosling Thompson. He grew up in Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1970. During his high school years, Paul spent summers with his family at their cabin on Spring Lake in Lengby. After high school, Paul attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He entered the United States Army on March 27, 1972 and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam era. He was also stationed in Panama during his career where he was exposed to combat action. He finished the remaining years of his service as a recruiter in the Indianapolis area, retiring as Sergeant First Class in 1992. He lived in Minneapolis until 1998 when he moved to Lengby to care for his father, Kenneth. After his father's passing, Paul continued to live at the lake in Lengby and spent the winter months in Pharr, Texas or South Padre Island, Texas. Paul will be remembered for his good and quirky sense of humor and his knowledge of family history. He loved to play cribbage and rook and his favorite plant was the red geranium. He was a big Gophers fan; enjoyed NASCAR, and in past years, deer hunting and fishing. Paul just truly loved just being at the lake. He is survived by his sister, Diane Thompson; and numerous cousins and other family members.He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marian.
