Palma Johnson, age 90, of Erskine, MN, passed away peacefully into heaven on Tuesday (October 19th) at her daughter's home in Rogers, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (October 23rd) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Broderheim Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (October 22nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Palma Caroline Horn was the sixth daughter born to parents Andrew and Selma (Engman) Horn in Grygla, Minnesota on March 22, 1920. She was baptized and confirmed at Valli Lutheran Church in Grygla. Palma attended a small country school in Lee Township in Beltrami County. She moved to Minneapolis as a teenager with her mother after her father passed away and attended Ramsey High School, Northwestern Bible College and Miller Vocational School where she became an LPN. Palma had been involved in health care for over 60 years. Prior to opening the Johnson Rest Homes in Erskine and Fosston, she had worked in hospitals and nursing homes including Bemidji Lutheran Hospital, Fosston Hospital, St. Vincent in Crookston, Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Pierce County Hospital in Tacoma, Washington and the Pioneer Memorial Home. While being the owner and administrator of the Johnson Rest Homes she served on several committees including the Minnesota C.A.R.E. Home Association, Erskine Health Board and Agassiz Health Planning Council. Some of the highlights of Palma's career have included attending special days with legislators in Minnesota and Washington D.C. She also attended many of the state and national conventions for The Care Providers of Minnesota. In 2000 she was honored with the Care Providers Life Achievement Award at a ceremony in Minneapolis. Palma was united in marriage to Harry Clifford Johnson in Minneapolis on April 9, 1944. They lived in Minneapolis, Tacoma, WA., Mentor and moved to Erskine in 1955.Palma was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was an honorary member of the WELCA. She also was awarded her 50 year membership from the Sons of Norway.Palma enjoyed traveling and went on many family vacations in the United States and Canada. Her travels also included trips to Hawaii, Norway, London, Scotland and France.Palma passed away peacefully into heaven on October 19, 2010 at her daughter's home in Rogers, Minnesota at the age of 90 years, seven months and 28 days. Palma will be sadly missed by her three daughters, Shirlee (Bob) Magnusson of Rogers/Erskine, MN, Lynnae (Drew) Larson of Crookston, MN, and Dianne (Terry) Boyum of Mentor, MN.Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Robin (Marlow) Roberts of Champlin, MN, Suzanne (Brad) Slawson of Ham Lake, MN, Steven (Misty) Magnusson of Wichita, KS, Shea (Geri) Boyum of Moorhead, MN, Blaise Larson (Special friend Jean Pierce) of Sacramento, CA, Anthony Boyum, Brandon Boyum and TaraAnn Boyum all of Waseca, MN, Nicholas Boyum (Elizabeth Berg) of Redwood Falls, MN; 7 great grandsons, Bradley and Jesse Slawson of Ham Lake, MN, Derek Roberts of Champlin, MN, Clay Below of Waseca, MN, Marek and Sedrek Magnusson of Wichita, KS, and Logan Berg of Redwood Falls, MN; one great granddaughter, Megan Roberts of Champlin, MN, and many nieces, nephews and friends.Her husband Harry Clifford Johnson; her parents; five sisters Agnes, Ethel, Myrtle, Sophia and Stella; one nephew Arthur Aaserud; and one great niece Vickii Lustig preceded Palma in death.Honorary Pallbearers: Ogden Farder, Jr, Robert Lerfald, Joe Sandberg, Jim Aagenes and Palma's nephews.Active Pallbearers: Palma's grandsons; Steven Magnusson, Shea Boyum, Blaise Larson, Anthony Boyum, Nicholas Boyum and Brandon Boyum.
