Orvin Hartel, age 89, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Wednesday (December 10th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (December 13th) at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (December 12th) at the McIntosh Community Center. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the McIntosh V.F.W. Post #6891 and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh. He was baptized in the Winnebago Lutheran Church in Iowa, attended Foot Lake School in Knute Township, rural McIntosh and was confirmed at Gosen Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, MN.Orvin joined the Army in April of 1943. He served in the European Theatre and was honorably discharged in January 1946. He farmed all his life in King Township, rural McIntosh, MN. He was united in marriage to Evonne Carlson on September 3, 1949 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Orvin was a Charter Member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church and a Charter and Lifetime Member of the McIntosh VFW Post 6891. He loved visiting with his children and grandchildren, loved farming and driving the tractor and having coffee with his friends at BB Café in McIntosh.Orvin passed away at First Care Hospital in Fosston, Minnesota on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 10 days.He is survived by Evonne, his wife of 59 years; seven sons, Lee of McIntosh, Roger of Mizpah, MN, Kenny (Nancy) of Wilton, MN, Dean (Lorri Ann) of Red Lake Falls, MN, Mark (Peggy) of McIntosh, Dale of Hillsboro, ND and Jim (Lori) of North Branch, MN; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Eunice Hartel of Fosston, Lorraine Carlson of McIntosh and Ruth Carlson of McIntosh; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Perley; and sister Alice Bartz.Blessed be his memory.
