Orlien Sollie, age 84, of Fosston, MN passed away on Thursday, December 17th at Essentia Health First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21st at 11:00 AM at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, MN with Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 20th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen presiding. There will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday morning. Interment will be at the church cemetery with military rites by the Fengestad-Solie American Legion, Post 200 of Winger, MN. Orlien Benneth Sollie was born July 2, 1931 to Norman and Gena (Roe) Sollie in Winger, Minnesota. Orlien and his family stayed and he was raised in the Winger area. Growing up he attended the Wide Awake country school. Orlien entered the US Army in May of 1949, at the age of seventeen. He served in the army until November of 1952. While in the army he served 26 months in Okinawa during the Korean War. When he returned, Orlien and his father built and operated the Winger Sales Barn. At the sales barn Orlien served as the auctioneer and sales person in purchasing, and selling of livestock. He had many farm auctions throughout the area as well. As well as owning and operating the sales barn, Orlien owned and operated a gravel truck service in the area. Orlien while working with cattle, started working in the cattle insemination field as part of the American and Curtiss Breeding Service, where he spent a number of years working. In 1957 Orlien met, and married the love of his life Darlene (Enerson) Sollie. Right after the wedding, Orlien went to Alaska where he served as a drop-in firefighter. Ever since the two have worked together at a number of occupations, including driving semi, and driving school bus for the Oklee Public Schools. In 1968, Orlien was ready for his next adventure, and opened a Real Estate office in Fosston, Minnesota. The business has been there since March 1, 1968, and continues to stand today. Orlien and Darlene in 1973 built the present office that is still located in Fosston. In the real estate business, he covered all of northern Minnesota. Orlien has been semi-retired since 2010, due to health reasons. Although he still made many weekly visits, to check on the crew. The business today is still operated by Darlene Sollie, along with Orlien and Darlene's son Larry Sollie, and his wife Carol Sollie. Orlien and Darlene started their family in 1957 with the birth of their daughter Linda (Sollie) Bergeson. Their family grew in 1961, with the birth of their son Larry Sollie. Linda married Richard Bergeson of Clearbrook Minnesota, and Larry married Carol (Kobliska) of Staples, Minnesota. Orlien is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Darlene (Enerson) Sollie of Fosston, Minnesota. His daughter and son-in-law Linda (Sollie) Bergeson and Richard Bergeson of Trail, Minnesota. His son and daughter-in-law, Larry Sollie and Carol (Kobliska) Sollie of Lengby, Minnesota. Orlien is survived by eight grand-children. Skip and Angel (Mickelson) Bergeson of Oklee, Minnesota. Scott and Jenna Bergeson of Menahga, Minnesota. Lindsay Bergeson of Bemidji, Minnesota. Skyler Bergeson of Trail, Minnesota. Lisa (Bergeson) and Riley Knutson of Leonard, Minnesota. Keisha Sollie of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Karina Sollie and Kylie Sollie of Lengby, Minnesota. Orlien is also survived by seven great grand-children. Guy, Bronco, Clark, and Summer Bergeson. Walker, and Kenzee Bergeson. Haaken Colbert. Orlien's two sisters, Carol (John) Fjelstul of Walker, Minnesota. Geraldine Engdahl of Bonita Springs, Florida. Along with two nieces, three nephews, and nine great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Philip Engdahl, his aunts and uncles, his father-in-law Elmer and mother-in-law Mabel Enerson, as well as many dear friends. Orlien passed away on December 17, 2015 at the age of 84. Orlien was a dedicated business man, who always worked very hard, and gave all he could to his family. He loved to travel, taking his family and his dogs on many adventures with him. Orlien had many loves which included, his Sunday afternoon Polka music, walks with his dogs to the lake, feeding many woodland creatures that found their way to his door. He was also an active scholar who enjoyed reading many books. His favorite was spending time with his four legged children, Gypsy and Buddy. Orlien was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
