Ordell Peter Nyhus was born on February 14, 1936 in Fosston, the son of Peter and Hannah (Landsverk) Nyhus. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member at Kingo Lutheran Church. He attended Pine Hill School in Columbia Township and graduated from Fosston High School in 1954. After high school, Ordell worked at Haugstul's Oil until 1962. Ordell was united in marriage to Florence Preisler on June 29, 1955. He began working at the Fosston Ag Service in 1962, where he was the manager from 1965 to 2010. Ordell was a substitute school bus driver for over 20 years and also worked a number of other part time jobs. Ordell genuinely enjoyed his jobs, and loved working with the public. When Ordell was not hard at work he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and shaking dice, and enjoying Florence's good cooking (especially lefse). Ordell truly loved spending time with Florence, driving the countryside. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting with his son, Steve, and working in his yard. Ordell passed away on Wednesday, March 30 at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ordell is survived by his wife, Florence; his children, Larry, Steve (and Cindy), Randy, and Patti; his grandchildren, Cassie (and Alex), Mandee, and Hallé; one sister, Lorraine Olien; sister-in-law Dory Pavek (and Ed); and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Hannah, brother-in-law Bob Olien, and niece Debbie Olien."I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."2 Timothy 4: 7 The support and kindness you have shown in many ways is deeply appreciated by Ordell's family.
