Norma Erickson

Norma Erickson, age 96, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 24^th, at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1^st, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Jane Ekholm officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston, at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Norma Viola Carlson (Erickson) was born on February 11, 1927, in Lengby, Minnesota, the daughter of David and Sigrid (Ringstad) Carlson.

She was united in marriage to Nels Erickson on March 8, 1950.

Norma lived on the farm in Fosston from 1950 until 1962. They moved into town and she was employed at Metz Baking Company in Fosston. Norma always had a passion for cooking and baking and she was wonderful at it.

He daughter, Diane, opened a clothing store, Style Rite Village, in Fosston where she worked also.

Over the years Norma lived in many places, from Fargo, North Dakota to Montana. In 1988, she moved to Sacramento, California for six years with her daughter, Diane, to help raise her two grandchildren, Erick and Mark, while also working at Ann’s Bingo Hall. They returned in 1994.

Norma was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston where she had been active in ladies’ aide for many years.

Norma was passionate about her “Boys” Erick and Mark. Her face would light up every time she saw them. They loved playing Gin Rummy together. Norma was also known for her witty sense of humor and endless love and compassion for her family. She was also a very special grandmother to a lot of other children in Erick and Mark’s life.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Diane Fjerstad (Erickson); her sister, Betty Juve; two grandsons, Erick and Mark Fjerstad; great granddaughter, Trinity Arthur and two great grandchildren, Bryson and Aria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Sigrid Carlson; her husband, Nels Erickson; and grandson, Jason, in 1972; siblings, Dora Myhrum, Marion Glige, and Alan Carlson; and great great grandson, Blaine, Jr.
