Noreen Carlson

Noreen Carlson, age 61, from Trail, MN passed away on Saturday, April 2nd surrounded by family at her home near Trail. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8th at 2:00 PM at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully, MN with Pastor Mike Sletto officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Lund Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Lund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gully, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Noreen Faye Brovold was born September 10th 1949 in Thief River Falls, MN to parents Walter and Alice (Brekke) Brovold. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church and confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully, MN. Noreen lived on a farm nine miles north of Gully until 1956 when her mother's failing health prompted a move to Gully. She attended Gully School through the Eighth Grade and then attended Gonvick High School. She graduated in 1967.Noreen was united in marriage to Robert Carlson on May 11th 1968. They bought, moved to, and worked a farm 4 ½ miles North of Gully in 1973. She worked for the Head Start program in the 1970's. During this time she also worked for the Gully Store and Gully Café. She worked as the substitute rural mail carrier for Trail, MN and became the fulltime carrier in 1996. Noreen continued hauling mail until her health prohibited it. After her husband Robert passed away she moved to the hills between Gully and Trail to be closer to her children and grandchildren.Noreen was a member of Lund Lutheran Church the Lund Ladies Aid and served as church secretary for many years.Noreen enjoyed feeding the birds that live in the dozens of birdhouses around her house. She enjoyed fishing with her husband Robert, playing whist with Allen and Judy Potvin and also mowing the lawn.Noreen especially enjoyed going out with her sidekick and running partner Dianne Watne. Family was important to her and she loved when her children and grandchildren would get together on Sunday afternoons.Noreen passed away April 2 nd 2011 surrounded by her family at home.Survivors include her two sons, Lonny and his wife Tammy of Trail, Cory and his wife Lori of Trail, and one daughter Alisa and her husband Terry Halvorson of Gully; six grandchildren, Leah, Kali and Christopher Carlson, Nathan and Adam Halvorson and Ted Carlson; and her brother Rodney Brovold of Gully; and numerous other relatives.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2002; her parents Walter and Alice Brovold; her brothers, Wayne Brovold and Jerry Brovold; sister Bonnie Childers; brother-in-law Gerald Carlson; sister-in-law Peggy Brovold; grand nephews, Benjamin Brovold and Jace Wiertzema; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.Blessed be her memory
