Myrtle Sorkness, age 99, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday (September 11th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 7:00 p.m., all on Tuesday (September 15th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with the Pastor Tim Carlton officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday (September 16th) at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Myrtle Genevieve Lee was born on February 13, 1910 to parents John and Sena (Morken) Lee at Flom, Minnesota. During her early childhood, the family moved to a farm west of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where she grew up and attended a country school. Upon finishing her education, Myrtle held various positions of employment in Minnesota, Washington, and California. On September 18, 1947 Myrtle married Harry Sorkness in Napa, California and they continued to live there until 1976 when Harry retired and the couple moved to Hillsboro, North Dakota. Harry passed away in 1996 and Myrtle moved to Mayville, North Dakota where she lived until 2005. In that year Myrtle took up residence at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community in Fosston in order to remain close to family. She moved to First Care Nursing Home during the following year and remained there until the time of her death.Myrtle's life was characterized by a quiet and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her zest for life, sense of humor, and gracious hospitality were special gifts she used to touch the lives of family and friends.Myrtle passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 99 years.Myrtle is survived by one sister, Marian Overmoe of Fosston, MN as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister Thelma, and brothers Richard, Palmer, Louis, Arnold, Gerald, Rueben, and David.
