Minette Naastad, age 85, of Fosston, MN passed away on Friday, April 11th at her home in Fosston. Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 18th at 2:00 PM at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the memorial service at the church and interment of cremains will be at Brandsvold Cemetery, rural Fosston. Minette Kathryn van der Locht was born in Chicago on November 12, 1922 to Julius and Laura (Thiel)van der Locht. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chicago. After graduating from Lake View High School she worked as a comptroller at an advertising agency in Chicago. She met John Naastad at the USO there when he was in the Navy during World War II. They were married at Robertson Memorial Church in Miami Florida on September 22, 1945. John brought Minette home to Fosston, MN where they bought a farm and raised their five children. In addition to being a hardworking farm-wife and house-wife she was employed by the Fosston Potato Plant for 12 years as a lab technician.Minette was involved with many activities at Kingo church. She served as director of Loaves & Fishes for 5 years, was a volunteer tax preparer for AARP and volunteered at the library and the Heritage Museum. She was proud to be a life member of the VFW Auxilliary and especially enjoyed her many years of participation in the Embassy Card Club. Many thanks to her good friends and others in the community which made her life so fulfilling.On April 11, 2008 Minette passed away at her home in Fosston with her daughters by her side at the age of 85 years. She will rest at Brandsvold Cemetery next to her beloved husband, John and son, Daniel, who preceded her in death.She is survived by her daughters Janet Naastad (Kerry Hageman) of Newberg Oregon, Pat Naastad of Eatonville Washington, Eloise Coppersmith (Bill) of Wyoming Minnesota and Marsha Kjelvik of Dilworth Minnesota. Her grandchildren are Sara Naastad (Jair Lopez), Brooks Hageman (Sarah), Drew Hageman (Stefanie), Kimberly Coppersmith, Emily Coppersmith, Melissa Kjelvik and Krystal Kjelvik. Minette's three great-grandchildren are Sarenity Blevins, Hailey Hageman and Dylan Hageman.Brother-in-law Les (Ethel) Naastad. Sister-in-law Alene Clementson. Many nieces and nephews.The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the First Care Hospice nurses and aides who provided care and comfort for the last two years. Minette would have been honored by any memorials and her request was that they go to Kingo Lutheran Church of Fosston or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
