Milton Hilliard, age 87, from Lengby, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 24th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at 11:00 AM at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with Scott Morey officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Hilliard was born on July 17, 1921 to parents Wilfred and Julia (Erickson) Hilliard at Lengby, MN where he grew up and attended the Klinke School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and a lifelong member of Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby. Milton served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 to November 1945 and was stationed in Siapan and Okinawa. After the service he returned to Lengby and worked with his father. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Rime on August 4, 1946 in McIntosh, MN. They lived in Lengby for one year before moving to North Dakota where Milton worked at the Garrison Dam for eight years before returning to Lengby. Milton also worked for many years in Alaska, drove truck for Lyle Hilliard and operated a gravel pit out of Lengby.He served on the Lengby City Council for 38 years, served as a Lengby police officer, was sexton of the Lengby City Cemetery and was Commander of the VFW in Lengby.On Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Milton passed away at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN at the age of 87 years.Survivors include his wife Beatie of Lengby; three children, Marilyn (Don) Smith of Lengby, Larry (Sue) Hilliard of Stacy, MN and Mary Hilliard of Crookston, MN; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; one sister, Mildred Henschke of Brooklyn Park, MN; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Hilliard of Fosston, MN and Lucille Hilliard of Crystal, MN; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Delbert, Wilbur and Kermit.
