Mildred Nelson, age 90, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday (August 14th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (August 21st) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Dr. Gerald White officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (August 20th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service in Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Mildred Bernice Mickelson Nelson was born on February 1, 1919 in Badger, Minnesota to parents Bennie H. and Mable (Ohlquist) Mickelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Roselund Lutheran Church near Badger. Mildred lived eight and a half miles north of Badger on a farm and attended rural school near her home. To attend high school, Mildred walked two and a half miles and roomed with relatives and friends. She graduated in 1936. Following graduation, she worked for Sjoberg's in Badger as a clerk for two years. Mildred was united in marriage to William L. Nelson on March 23, 1940. Bill and Mildred moved to Fosston in 1962 where they raised their family and Mildred worked at Thoreen's Hobbies. Bill passed away on September 25, 2000. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston and while she was a member of Roselund Church, she was active in Ladies Aid (served as President), Luther League and other church activities. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, watching her children and grandchildren in sporting events, and visiting with family and friends.Mildred passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 90 years, six months and 13 days.Survivors include four sons, Forrest (Karen) of Climax, MN, Wally (Peggy) of Clearbrook, MN, Tom (Jodi) of Fosston, and Peter (Mona) of Fosston; one daughter, Susan (Mark) Nohner of Baudette, MN; Vernon (Martha) Haaby of Badger, MN; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sister, Florence; brother-in-law, Phillip; and nephew, Mike Erickson.Pallbearers will be Ben Nelson, Brady Nelson, Brian Nelson, Robert Erickson, Jon Erickson, and Shawn Nelson.
