Merle Sandry

Merle Sandry, age 79, of Lengby, MN passed away on Monday, October 21st at the V.A. Hospital in Fargo, ND. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 31st at 2:00 PM at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston, MN with Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Minnesota Honor Guard. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Rosehill Cemetery of Fosston.Merle Ray Sandry was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota on November 8, 1933 to parents Bert and Martha (Hill) Sandry.Merle retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of dedicated service to his country as a Master Sergeant. He served two tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Merle enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winter months and for summers he went north to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoyed farming. Merle grew up in Fosston, Minnesota and liked the small town life. He spent the last years in Lengby, Minnesota.On Monday, October 21, 2013 Merle passed away peacefully in his sleep at the V.A. Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 79 years.He is survived by three children, Bryan (Sherry) Sandry of Watford City, ND, Waren (Teresa) Sandry of Vancouver, WA and Karen (Julian Cole) Thompson of Spokane, WA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Earl (Joanne) Sandry, Harry (Carlene) Sandry and Helen (Buddy) Shea all of Illinois, and Robert "Bob" (Dottie) Sandry of Florida.He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Martha; three brothers, Alfred, John and Verne; and his wife Janet.He will be deeply missed.
