Melvin Borseth, age 84, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday (March 9th) at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (March 13th) at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (March 12th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and an online guestbook is available at carlinhoialmen.com.Melvin Orvel Borseth was born on April 30, 1925 in Fosston, Minnesota to Adolph and Sarah (Landsverk) Borseth. He attended county school. He was a World War II veteran stationed in the Aleutian Islands, serving from February 24, 1945 until his honorable discharge on November 14, 1946. He was united in marriage to Dona Hanson on December 20, 1958. To this union, two children were born, Julie and Mark.Melvin farmed early in life and worked at Haugstul's in Fosston at Forsell's 2 & 59 truck stop at Erskine. He then worked construction on numerous pipelines, missile sites and power plant projects until his retirement in 1998.He enjoyed doing things with grandchildren, taking them fishing and other places, riding bike with them and enjoyed riding four wheeler. His favorite times were spent with his family. He was a kind and gentle person with a heart of gold.He enjoyed music so much and playing with his Calvary Singers, playing mandolin with the group. He was a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church and had been on the church board as a trustee and head usher. Recently, he had been recovering from a fall at the Neilson Place in Bemidji, Minnesota. Melvin passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo at the age of 84 years, 10 months and nine days.He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dona of Fosston; daughter, Julie (Boyd) Oppegaard of Erskine, MN; son, Mark (Denise) Borseth of Thief River Falls, MN; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan and Tyler Oppegaard of Erskine, Brittany Borseth of Fargo, ND and Christopher Borseth of Thief River Falls, MN; one brother, Kenneth Borseth of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave Hanson of Mentor, MN, Chuck (Sandy) Hanson of Selby, SD, and Cindy Hanson of Mentor, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Anora and Philip Hedlund.
