Melissa Hagman

Melissa Hagman, age 57, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Monday, September 2nd, at Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th, at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Dawn Hanson officiating. Interment will be in Sand Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Melissa Ann Hagman was born on April 16, 1967, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to parents Stephen and Joan (Mohs) Libor. She was baptized at St. Augustine Church in St. Cloud. As a young girl, Melissa moved with her family to Andover, Minnesota and graduated from Anoka High School in 1985. She was married Greg Mortenson and to this union, two children were born, Michael and Anthony. They later divorced.

Melissa married Marvin Hagman and two children were born, Jacob and Nicholas. And later, a daughter, Cayla was born. Melissa spent most of her working years serving in restaurants and bars. She met Rory Austad in 2002. In 2005, she moved to the Trail/Gully area, Goodridge, and Thief River Falls. 

Melissa liked to play cards, bingo, puzzles, reading her Bible and go hunting with Rory. She was also a huge Vikings football fan and she loved her weekly Girl’s night with Shelby to watch The Bachelorette on Monday nights and play cards while they cooked supper. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include five children, Michael (Shelby) Mortenson of Thief River Falls, MN, Anthony (Keely) Mortenson of Mora, MN, Jacob Hagman of Brooklyn Center, MN, Nicholas Hagman of Thief River Falls, MN, and Cayla Weber of Graceville, MN; grandchildren, Jordan, Bryce Camryn, Jaxson, Casen, Ginny, Patrick, and Liam.

Also surviving are siblings, Cheri Karrow of Andover, MN, Lori Mevissen of Buffalo, MN, Michelle (Lee) Erickson of Arizona, Lynnette (Jeff) Neubauer of Coon Rapids, MN, Steve (Denise) Libor of Ham Lake, MN, Kathy (Tom) Vaudrin of Blaine, MN, and Joe (Nancy) Libor of Elk River, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her significant other, Rory Austad; her parents; brother-in-law, Robert Karrow; and nephew, Adam Neubauer.
