Melanie Sorvig

Melanie Sorvig age 66, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Winger, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 1st, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7th, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger with the Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Winger. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Melanie Rae Sorvig was born on April 26, 1952 in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Roland and Jean Sorvig. She lived with her family in Winger, attending school there through the eighth grade and then graduated from McIntosh-Winger High School in 1970.She moved to Montana not too long after high school and began raising her family. They moved back to Minnesota in the summer of 1982 to Fertile, then on to Thief River Falls where she attended the technical college for nursing. She attained her Registered Nurse license and worked at the Thief River Falls, St. Cloud, and Grand Rapids hospitals. Since 2006, she has resided in Grand Forks. Melanie was active through her high school years in band, cheerleading and was the 1970 Homecoming Queen. She loved being at the lake in the sun with family and friends. This was her "happy place". Melanie was a very giving person and was always concerned about everyone else. Though her life was not easy, she kept her gentle, quiet and calming presence. Her family is what she was most proud of. She enjoyed her time with them and always looked forward to the annual family get-togethers. She will be dearly missed.Survivors include three daughters, Suzanne (Adam) Lane of Grand Rapids, MN, Stephanie (Jason) Hageman of Grand Forks, and Alice DuRose of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Carly and Elsa Lane, and Thomas Nelson; one sister, Stephanie Daley of Thief River Falls; and one brother, Dan (Jodi) Lee of Fosston. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Douglas Sorvig.
