Mavis Olson

Mavis Olson, age 67, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (June 11th) at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (June 19th) at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Hollis Graves officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday (June 18th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Mavis Carol Irene Berg was born on July 2, 1940 in rural McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Carl and Cora (Olson) Berg. She attended country school, the Erskine school for a year and graduated from Fosston High School in 1958. Mavis was united in marriage to Donald Olson on July 5, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural McIntosh. After their marriage, they lived in Fosston where Mavis worked at Bratland's Café, the Green Lantern, and the Tip Top Café. She also worked at the Johnson Rest Home in Fosston as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was an Avon sales consultant for many years. Her most important work though came as being the best mother that she could be to her children. In recent years Mavis assisted her daughter, Angie, with her daycare. She was a member of Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston. She enjoyed baking, sewing, circle-a-word puzzles and children. She especially loved the time that she could spend with her children and her grandchildren. Mavis will be dearly missed by her family, friends and her daycare "grandkids" who affectionately knew her as "Gammy".Mavis passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the at age of 67 years.Survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, Donald of Fosston; four children, Steve (Sue Ellen) Olson and their children, Ben, Dan, Tim and Katie of Apple Valley, MN, Angie Olson of Fosston, Amy (Eric) Hovland and their children, Liz, Rachel and Bekkah of Mora, MN, Pete Olson and his children, Lilly and Luke Ihrke of Fosston.She is also survived by three sisters, Gladys Nornes of Finley, ND, Ruth (Donn) Reichert of Clearbrook, MN, and June (Ed) Parsley of South Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Donavin (Kennlyn) Berg of Cocoa, FL and Ray (Betsy) Berg of Cudahy, WI; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers Curtis and Myron Berg.Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.
