Mavis Klema

Mavis Klema, age 87, of Gonvick, MN, passed away on Friday (June 13th) at Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (June 18th) at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick with the Rev. Jimalee Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (June 17th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Mavis Evangeline Brenna was born on November 3, 1926 in Holt, Minnesota to parents Helme and Tillie Nyland Brenna. She grew up in the Gully, Minnesota area, attended Gully School and graduated from Fosston High School.Mavis was united in marriage to George Klema on December 22, 1945. After their marriage, they moved to Fisher, Minnesota where George worked on a farm and Mavis cooked for the farm hands. Then they farmed in Gonvick, spent a short time near Gully on her parents farm and then settled in Clearbrook, Minnesota. Mavis worked as a nurses aide at the Good Samaritan Home in Clearbrook for 30 years until her retirement. After retirement, George and Mavis continued to live in Clearbrook until moving the Villages Assisted Living apartments in Bagley and then to Greensview/Cornerstone Nursing Home. George passed away on November 27, 2007. Mavis was a member of Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick and the Gonvick American Legion Auxiliary Post #304. She loved to read, watch TV and bake. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.Mavis passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley at the age of 87 years.Survivors include her three children, David (Lois) Klema of Trail, MN, Kathy (Danny) Klasen of Oklee, MN, and Mike (Charlotte) Klema of Bagley, MN; eight grandchildren, Lisa (John), Angie (Ryan), Jessica, Tina (David), Jeremiah, John, Ben and Nathan; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Luanne Andys of East Grand Forks, MN, and Shirley Brenna of Fridley, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; one brother, Harvey Brenna; one sister, Vi Huot; and great granddaughter, Brianna Erlandson.
