Mary Oppegaard

Mary Oppegaard, age 81, of Erskine, MN, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. In honor of Mary's request, no services will be held. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine at a later date. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Mary Mildred Rost was born on June 12, 1930 in Winger Township, Minnesota to parents Jonas and Ragna (Johnson) Rost. She grew up in the Winger and Knute Township area and attended rural school at the Sarah View School in Knute Township.Mary was united in marriage to Reuben Oppegaard on July 1, 1950. After their marriage they lived and raised their family on the Oppegaard family homestead. She lived there until entering the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine on August 26, 2004. She was a member of Gosen Lutheran Church of rural Erskine. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, birds and all of nature. She will be dearly missed by her family.Survivors include her five children, Rose (Daniel) Ranisate of Shevlin, MN, Judy (Alan) Erickson of Erskine, Boyd (Julie) Oppegaard of Erskine, Gay (Steven) Hesse of Warroad, MN, and Milo Oppegaard of Erskine (special friend, Cecily Erickson); 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; two sisters, Ilo Asp of Oakdale, MN, and Mabel Eklund of Moorhead, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special friends, Ila Mahlen and Evelyn Johnson, both of Erskine.She was preceded in death by her husband on January 16, 1980; her parents; three brothers, Elmer, Johnnie, and Vernon; and three sisters, Mildred Johnson, Alma Banister, and Elida Capistran.
